Billings, Montana, 1977-1978
A few Jewish merchants settled in Billings in 1884, but a community began only after 1900. Congregation Beth Aaron was formed in Billings in 1918. The Jewish population grew and declined mainly with the boom (1950s) and bust (1960's) of the oil business. By 1979, there were approx. 30-40 Jewish families in Billings.

Torah Shield "presented to Temple Emanuel by the confirmation class of 1922", Torah Shield "In memory of the fallen in Israel in the Yom Kippur War" in 1973, and a shofar with maroon velvet bag.

Box contains administrative and personal files for rabbis including high holy days, board appointments and resignations, by-laws, member resignations, rabbi and assistant rabbi files, and a 1946 petition from the congregation regarding conservativism and political Zionism.

Haintige Chazonim, 1927
This sheet music is for a song titled, "Haintige Chazonim," or in English, "The Cantors of To Day [sic]." The Hebrew charachters throughout the sheet music are Yiddish. On the back of the music are the verses and chorus written out in full. Words and music written by Lipa Feingold. Piano arrangement by Mae Jaffe. Published by Lipa Feingold in 1927. Oral History Interview with Dora Perlmutter, 1979 July 29
Topics include: Born in Russia, father a cattle dealer; married in Russia to Pinchus Perlmutter who was a plasterer/contractor; first children were a set of triplets, one died, now has 5 children; father came to America and brought back money, was killed in WWI; when immigrating the boat ran into a storm and sank, she and her children were saved on a lifeboat but many died; learning the daven; talks about life in Russia and life in Denver.
Rabbi Samuel Adelman, 1957-1968
Rabbi Samuel Adelman (1916-1966) was the leader of Beth Ha Medrosh Hagodol (BMH) Synagogue from 1957 until his death in 1966. He was also the president of the Religious Council on Human Relations for Metropolitan Denver and the Denver Housing Board, and was well-known for his talks on Russian Jews. Adelman was buried at Mount Nebo Cemetery and an estimated 1,400 people attended memorial services at BMH.
Rabbi Velvel Heller, 1958 October 31
Velvel Heller was a longtime leader in the Denver Orthodox community for more than 70 years. He died in 1937.
